Letitia James (D), New York’s State Attorney General, has just announced her intention to move forward in dissolving the NRA. The Attorney General made the announcement on Twitter, arguing that she filed the lawsuit against the NRA “for years of self-dealing and illegal conduct.”
She added that “the NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse,” saying that “no organization is above the law.”
The lawsuit concludes an 18-month investigation into the organization, and it comes at a time when gun control has become a prominent conversation in the national political conversation.
In a statement, James commented that "the NRA's influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets."
Aside from a number of crimes that the NRA is accused of taking part in, James also accuses the NRA's executives of engaging in "a culture of self-dealing, mismanagement and negligent oversight," which is alleged to have contributed to "the waste and loss of millions in assets."
