Grant Gone With the Wind
Republican Rep. Jamie Grant is calling it quits just three months before the November election.
Trouble in paradise?
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Grant quit his re-election bid to fill the job of Chief Information Officer for the state of Florida.
Que!? What!?
“Anyone who thinks I created a job for myself can’t read policy and is just throwing out cheap political shots,” Grant said. “Instead of running a data center, the CIO now has to make sure data moves across agencies and he sets the table for cyber security reform.”
There has to be more to this abrupt departure. Who just gets up and leaves like this in the middle of an election?
Regardless of the reason, we wish Grant luck.
Biden-Harris
Florida Democrats like Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz all came out to praise former Vice President Joe Biden’s decision to tap Sen. Kamala Harris as his 2020 running mate.
The state’s top Democrat, AG Commissioner Nikki Fried, who is said to be considering a gubernatorial run against Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022, also sang Biden’s praises:
“Senator Kamala Harris is ambitious, smart, and someone every little girl and boy can look up to.” She added, “with her on the ticket our party, and our nation, is stronger.” READ MORE
Even those rascally Trump-haters over at the Lincoln Project applauded Biden’s decision and are now backing the Biden-Harris ticket. <<< This makes ‘NO’ sense. READ MORE
COVID-19
Over the past two days, 500 Floridians have died from the coronavirus. To date, 550,901 people have been infected with the virus in Florida, 31,947 have been hospitalized, and 8,765 have died.
***Your morning JUICE is also sponsored by Fran Flynn. Fran Flynn is a Republican running for Congress in Florida's 22nd congressional district. She's Pro-Trump, Pro-Gun, Pro-Life.***
Marco Rubio @marcorubio -Since March I warned #COVID19 was serious, helped save millions of #smallbusiness jobs & told everyone to use a mask But @Cbrennansports is too lazy to learn that. And so biased she calls retweeting athletes who say #WeWantToPlay “political posturing”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz @DWStweets -Now more than ever, we must protect Floridians’ rights to work safely, secure a retirement and earn a living wage. I’m proud to be endorsed by @SEIUFL and to join them and the entire labor movement in fighting for workers and their families.
Congressman Greg Steube @RepGregSteube -With the election coming up in November, DC Democrats have hyper-politicized future CARES Act negotiations.Rather than putting politics aside and drafting legislation that would pass Congress, they choose to load the bills with leftist poison pills.
US Rep Kathy Castor @USRepKCastor -Specialized health care is coordinated in one place. Drs & nurses develop relationships with the families to the benefit of all. The pandemic hasn’t slowed the ‘round-the-clock care provided by St. Joe’s & our other children’s hospitals. I’m proud to continue to #SpeakNowForKids.
Rep. Matt Gaetz @RepMattGaetz -Big Tech has bought off Congress. Our democracy should be powered by the people of our country, not by a few Silicon Valley monopolies.
Rep. Donna E. Shalala @RepShalala-This week we will celebrate the 85th anniversary of Social Security, a program that changed what it means to grow old in America.Thank you to everyone who worked to pass and implement this extraordinary legislation.
Rep. Val Demings @RepValDemings-We have heard from caregivers that they lack adequate PPE and testing supplies. This is dangerous and not acceptable. I've joined a new letter led by @RepCharlieCrist to @AHCA_FL asking for a complete and public inventory of PPE at all long term care facilities in Florida.
Congressman Charlie Crist @RepCharlieCrist -Long-term care workers are putting their lives and the lives of those in their care at risk every day they go without adequate PPE. After hearing from staff, we're calling on the State of Florida to get workers the protection they need NOW.
“Byron Donalds’ past arrests could trigger ethics and FDLE investigations” by The Floridian’s Javier Manjarres – Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) is running for the U.S. Congress in arguably the most expensive Republican primary race in the 2020 election cycle, and considering that The Club for Growth is backing his candidacy with over $1.5 million in TV and print advertising, Donalds is considered by many as the frontrunner in the 8-person primary race. Because we are in the throes of the 2020 election season, his critics are focusing on the fact that the Donald’s was arrested for distribution of marijuana and on a bribery charge when he was younger. Donalds has owned up to the arrests, but according to a questionnaire he filled in order to be appointed to the Board of Trustees at Edison State College, Donalds said that he was never been “arrested, charged, or indicted” in any local, state or federal jurisdictions. Donalds told The Floridian that “when you seal or expunge a record you don’t have to legally acknowledge it. Legally by law, I am allowed to not acknowledge the offense.” According to Florida law, Donald’s is right. Florida Statute 943.0585 reads: “The person who is the subject of a criminal history record that is expunged under this section or under the provisions of law…May lawfully deny or fail to acknowledge the arrests covered by the expunged record.”
“Fried Praises Harris as Biden’s VP Pick” by The Floridian’s Daniel Molina – With former Vice President Joe Biden (D) officially choosing Senator Kamala Harris (D) as his Vice Presidential pick, the announcement drew both criticism and praise from Democrats. Biden made the announcement on Twitter, calling Harris “a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants.” Although the pick has received some criticism from Democratic voters on social media, Florida’s top elected Democrat, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), released a statement in support of the Biden/Harris ticket. In her statement, Fried commented that “Senator Kamala Harris is ambitious, smart, and someone every little girl and boy can look up to.” She added, “with her on the ticket our party, and our nation, is stronger.” In turn, Fried believes that Harris “will help lead Democrats to a victory in Florida, help win back the White House, and will help restore America’s moral compass.” In a message to supporters, Biden provided more insight into why he chose Senator Harris as his running mate, adding that “she’s been one of the toughest and most effective Senators on two of the most important committees in the Senate – Intelligence and Judiciary.”
“Anti-Trump Lincoln Project Celebrates Biden-Harris Ticket” by The Floridian’s Mona Salama – Anti-Trump Republicans known as The Lincoln Project released an ad celebrating the news of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s running mate selection of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), praising the California Senators as a “strong voice for a better America.” “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is the America we believe in, where hard work means more than family wealth, where compassion and kindness are strengths, not weaknesses,” the one-minute ad narrator says. “This is the America of our better angels. The best of America — strong, compassionate, determined. On November 3rd, a new beginning.” The ad describes the California Senator as a “daughter of immigrants, a passion for justice, a happy warrior in the battle for the soul of America.” In another tweet, the group shared a photo of Biden and Harris hugging, with the caption reading #ThePeoplesTeam. Known as “The Lincoln Project,” the group PAC was formed by anti-Trump RINO GOP operatives with its sole purpose to prevent the re-election of President Trump by creating campaign ads attacking Trump. They also turned to electing Democrats, targeting republicans whom they believe are enablers of the President.
“Penelas makes false campaign claims against Bovo” by The Floridian’s Javier Manjarres – Miami-Dade County Mayoral candidate Esteban “Steve” Bovo has sent former Mayor Alex Penelas a cease and desist letter after the former Miami-Dade mayor and his Bold Vision PC sent out a campaign mailing making false allegations against Bovo. The mailing states that Bovo is “under investigation,” is using campaign dollars from Dictator Nicholas Maduro to fund attacks against his opponents, and that former Rep. David Rivera is consulting his campaign. Penelas’ mailer stems from a $500 donation Rivera gave to the Bovo campaign, money that Democrats called ‘dirty’ and tainted after it was discovered that Rivera received millions of dollars in lobbying fees from the former Venezuela government-controlled oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela. Petroleos de Venezuela is now run by PDV USA, who initiated a suit against Rivera because they felt that he did not substantiate a $15 million lobbying payment. They want their money back. The Floridian spoke to Rivera who confirmed what other sources had already told us in that he did not have any involvement in Bovo’s campaign. Penelas’ assertion that Bovo’s campaign is somehow being secretly sending out attack ads using Maduro money appears baseless. Unless you Bovo took that $500 Rivera gave him and played a bunch of scratch-off lottery tickets and won, a $500 donation is not going to go far in this contentious mayoral race.
“Data Dump Inflates Infection Rate in Florida — for One Day” by NBC Miami’s Tony Pipitone – One look at Florida's daily coronavirus test results Wednesday morning, and Florida Atlantic University PhD candidate Jon Taylor knew something was amiss. "I knew something was up," said Taylor, who has carefully analyzed the state's data since soon after the pandemic hit. The percentage of all tests coming back positive among Tuesday's results had soared to 16.5%, the highest rate in nearly three weeks. And Miami-Dade County saw a record high one-day new-case increase of 4,104, boosting its new case positivity rate to 18.3%, the highest in weeks. So Taylor dug deeper, into which labs were suddenly reporting so many positive tests, and one stood out: Niznik Lab Corp (NLC) of Miami Gardens, which had never before appeared in the data. It reported 14,181 results, 31% of which were positive. Two-thirds of the positives were for residents of Miami-Dade County. Turns out, NLC said in a statement to NBC 6, it uploaded seven weeks of results all at once after solving "data integration issues" it had with the state Department of Health. "Garbage in. Garbage out," Taylor said, recalling an old maxim of those who work in data. NLC notes its clients did get their results in timely fashion, in under 36 hours they said. But because their positivity rate of 31% was so much higher than the statewide rate of 13% over the last week, it drove up positivity numbers.
“United Airlines bets on Florida, adding dozens of flights on Nov. 6” by Fox News – United Airlines is adding up to 28 daily nonstop U.S. flights to Florida starting Nov. 6 as the Chicago-based airline bets on a rebound in leisure travelers heading to sunny skies. The direct flights are from non-United hub cities in Boston, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, New York/LaGuardia, Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio to four Florida destinations. United said it is part of its "continuing strategy to aggressively, and opportunistically manage the impact of COVID-19 by increasing service to destinations where customers most want to fly." But the carrier said it could reduce the number of flights if COVID-19 infections in Florida remain high. New Florida flights will go to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa. Ankit Gupta, United’s vice president of domestic network planning, said the new flights represent "United’s largest expansion of point-to-point, non-hub flying and reflects our data driven approach to add capacity where customers are telling us they want to go." United can adjust up or down. Gupta said the added Florida flights could amount to more than 400,000 additional seats this winter season. He said many U.S. travelers are picking Florida instead of international destinations. There are modest signs of improving air travel demand. The Transportation Security Administration said it screened 831,789 people on Sunday -- the first time it screened more than 800,000 people since March 17. That is still down 70% over prior year figures.
“4 arrested and 1 wanted after luring children for sex, Central Florida deputies say” by Fox 35 Orlando – The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said that detectives arrested four men on charges of luring a child for sex. They said that the arrests were part of an internet sting operation, called 'Operation Illicit Solicit.' It will be repeated in the future to catch more predators. Undercover chatters were deployed, posing as 14-year-old children. 33-year-old John Hil, 32-year-old Kenneth Mullis, 31-year-old Robert Hersey, and 35-year-old Vinyak Sawant were arrested. They also identified a fifth suspect, 29-year-old Ronald Foley. He allegedly has chatted with undercover detectives in three consecutive sting operations. He has been arrested previously for child sex charges. He is also wanted on charges of violating his pre-trial release conditions, as a judge revoked his bond after he chatted up with an undercover detective during Operation Illicit Solicit. The operation was said to be a joint effort between North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the ICE-Brevard-Volusia Child Exploitation Task Force, Department of Homeland Security, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
“Florida Sheriff Orders Deputies And Staff Not To Wear Face Masks” by NPR’s Scott Neuman – The sheriff in a central Florida COVID-19 hotspot has issued a directive prohibiting deputies, staff and visitors to department offices from wearing protective face masks, an order that came as a local mayor and city council squared off over a mask ordinance for businesses. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods sent an email Tuesday informing the approximately 900 people working in the department that "when you are on-duty/working as my employee and representing my Office – masks will not be worn," the Ocala Star Banner reports. Woods added that "effective immediately, any individual walking in to any one of our lobbies (which includes the main office and all district offices) that is wearing a mask will be asked to remove it." "[I]n light of the current events when it comes to the sentiment and/or hatred toward law enforcement in our country today, this is being done to ensure there is clear communication and for identification purposes of any individual walking into a lobby," he said. "We can debate and argue all day of why and why not," Woods added. "The fact is, the amount of professionals that give the reason why we should, I can find the exact same amount of professionals that say why we shouldn't. "Marion County, with a population of about 370,000, has had nearly 6,800 confirmed coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, with 104 deaths. Marion reported a single-day record of 13 deaths on Tuesday, county officials said.
“FLORIDA HEALTH DEPARTMENT: NUMBERS SKEWED, LAB WITHHELD DATA” by Boca News Now – The Florida Department of Health is taking the rare step of calling out a South Florida lab, while admitting that data provided today — Wednesday — may be skewed. From the Florida Dept. of Health: “Today, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) received a backlog of testing data from Niznik Lab Corp in Miami, dating back to June 23. The lab reported more than 4,000 cases occurring over the past 7 weeks, which had not been reported to DOH until today. Therefore, this backlog severely skews today’s daily report for Miami-Dade County and is not reflective of current trends. Once DOH was informed of this testing data backlog, the agency immediately reached out to Niznik Lab and is investigating the matter, along with Miami-Dade County leadership.” It is unclear if any samples from Palm Beach County were sent to the lab in question. It is also unclear if other labs are also holding data — “dumping” it when convenient or politically beneficial. While this does NOT affect the death count which comes from Medical Examiners statewide, it potentially affects positivity rate and infection data.
“Trump touts administration’s guidelines for reopening schools” by Fox News’ Morgan Phillips – President Trump touted his administration’s guidelines for reopening schools Tuesday, saying the Centers for Disease Control could deploy teams to assist schools with safely reopening in the fall. “Today I am pleased to announce that we will provide up to 125 million reusable masks to various school districts around the country," Trump said during a Wednesday news conference. "My administration also stands ready to deploy CDC teams to support schools that are opening and schools that need help in safety and in order to safely reopen.” The recommendations call on all students, teachers and staff to self-assess their health each morning and encourage frequent hand-washing or sanitizing throughout the day. They call for “high standards” of ventilation and hygiene in classrooms, and minimal indoor group gatherings. The guidelines also call on teachers, staff and students to socially distance around high-risk individuals and encourage the use of masks where social distancing is not possible. The president again emphasized that “99.95 percent of all fatalities are adults” and “children often only have mild symptoms.” He said that for children with underlying conditions, the flu resulted in more deaths than COVID-19 “by far.” Still, he said that families should be “empowered to make the decision” about whether or not to return to school. In this vein, Trump said that school funding should go directly to students rather than school districts.
“Sarah Palin offers advice and congratulations to Kamala Harris” by CNN’s Kate Sullivan – Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin offered advice and congratulations to Sen. Kamala Harris on Tuesday shortly after the California Democrat was announced as former Vice President Joe Biden's running mate. Palin was on the ticket with Sen. John McCain of Arizona in 2008, the second woman to be on the ticket of a major political party. When Harris accepts the nomination next week at the Democratic National Convention, she will become the third woman and first Black and South Asian American woman nominated for the role. "Congrats to the democrat VP pick," Palin wrote in an Instagram post. "Climb upon Geraldine Ferraro's and my shoulders, and from the most amazing view in your life consider lessons we learned." In 1984, Democratic Rep. Geraldine Ferraro of New York was the first woman to be on a major party ticket. Palin offered six pieces of advice to Harris, which included, "out of the chute trust no one new," "fight mightily to keep your own team with you," "don't get muzzled" and "don't forget the women who came before you." The former Alaska governor offered personal anecdotes from the campaign trail and warned Harris against those who may try to change her. "Some yahoos running campaigns will suffocate you with their own self-centered agenda so remember YOU were chosen for who YOU are. So stay connected with America as you smile and ignore deceptive 'handlers' trying to change you," Palin wrote.’
“U.S. Prepares Sanctions Against Hezbollah’s Allies in Lebanon” by WSJ’s Dion Nissenbaum, Ian Talley, and Benoit Faucon – The Trump administration is preparing to impose anticorruption sanctions against prominent Lebanese politicians and businessmen in an effort to weaken Hezbollah’s influence in the aftermath of last week’s explosion in Beirut’s port, according to U.S. officials and others familiar with the plans. The blast, which killed at least 160 people and injured thousands more, has accelerated efforts in Washington to blacklist Lebanese leaders aligned with Hezbollah, the country’s dominant political and military force, according to these people. U.S. officials see an opportunity to drive a wedge between Hezbollah and its allies as part of a broader effort to contain the Shiite force backed by Tehran. Hezbollah has been part of Lebanese coalition governments for more than a decade and is the region’s most potent threat to Israel, which has bombed the group’s forces in Syria and Lebanon to prevent it from amassing advanced missiles. President Trump has used sanctions as a central tool in his “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran. Now some in his administration want to see the White House turn the screws in Lebanon. “I don’t see how you can react to this kind of event with anything other than ‘maximum pressure,’” said one U.S. official. Some U.S. officials said they want to move quickly so that the penalties can send a message that Lebanon has to change course as it seeks billions of dollars in international aid to rebuild Beirut. The city is facing a daunting reconstruction process after 2,750 tons of a volatile fertilizer stored for years at the port created one of the largest nonnuclear blasts in history, laying waste to entire neighborhoods.
“Trump on Harris: 'Nobody more insulting to Biden than she was' during primary” by Fox News’ Morgan Phillips – President Trump weighed in on Joe Biden’s running mate pick Wednesday, saying there was “nobody more insulting to Biden than she was" during the Democratic primary. “She left angry, she left mad,” Trump said during an afternoon press conference. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., made her mark on the presidential race in a moment where she called out Biden for touting his work with segregationist senators and his opposition to busing. Harris, as an Indian and Black woman, took Biden’s opposition personally: "There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bused to school every day. That little girl was me," Harris said. Trump added that there was a “situation” where Harris “believed the women” who accused Biden of inappropriate contact. After a number of women in April 2019 accused the presumptive Democratic nominee of inappropriate touching and kissing, Harris said: “I believe them, and I respect them being able to tell their story and having the courage to do it.” “He’s going to have to make that decision for himself,” Harris said when asked if Biden, who hadn’t announced a presidential bid at the point, should still run. “I wouldn’t tell him what to do.” Biden released a video addressing the allegations at the time, in which he said, “Social norms are changing. I understand that, and I’ve heard what these women are saying. Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it.”
“Financial disclosures reveal postmaster general's business entanglements and likely conflicts of interest, experts say” by CNN’s Marshall Cohen – Postmaster General Louis DeJoy continues to hold a multimillion-dollar stake in his former company XPO Logistics, a United States Postal Service contractor, likely creating a major conflict of interest, according to newly obtained financial disclosures and ethics experts. Outside experts who spoke to CNN were shocked that ethics officials at the postal service approved this arrangement, which allows DeJoy to keep at least $30 million in XPO holdings. DeJoy and USPS have said he fully complied with the regulations. Raising further alarms, on the same day in June that DeJoy divested large amounts of Amazon shares, he purchased stock options giving him the right to buy new shares of Amazon at a price much lower than their current market price, according to the disclosures.
This could lead to a separate conflict, given President Donald Trump's disdain for Amazon, and his reported effort in 2018 to pressure DeJoy's predecessor to raise prices on Amazon and other firms, while complaining about its founder Jeff Bezos. The Treasury Department also recently struck a loan deal with USPS that gives the Trump administration more leverage to push for higher shipping prices -- one of his pet projects. DeJoy already faces bipartisan criticism for implementing disruptive changes after taking over the USPS on June 15, including eliminating overtime for many workers. Democrats also claim he is intentionally slowing down mail delivery to sabotage absentee voting in the November election -- a charge he denies.
“Facebook and Other Tech Giants Gird for Chaotic Election” by WSJ’s Dustin Volz and Emily Glazer – Facebook Inc., FB 1.47% Alphabet Inc.’s GOOG 1.78% Google and Twitter Inc. TWTR 0.43% have discussed with federal officials how the social-media platforms can prevent the spread of misinformation in the days before and after the election, after the U.S. intelligence community warned of foreign interference and President Trump called the vote’s integrity into question. The conversations are designed to address problems that may arise from across the political spectrum and have included the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security and intelligence agencies, according to people familiar with the matter. They have been shaped by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which is expected to result in far more people voting by mail than in previous elections, making it unclear how long it will take to have final election results. The discussions have grown more urgent, the people said, as President Trump has repeated his warning of likely vote-by-mail fraud. In late July, for example, he tweeted to his 85 million followers: “2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???” The U.S. intelligence community has assessed that Russia has undertaken a broad effort to damage Democrat Joe Biden’s bid for the presidency, while China prefers that President Trump not win re-election, a senior intelligence official said recently.
“Biden says campaign raised $26M since Kamala Harris announcement, in its largest daily haul” by Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser, Madeleine Rivera, Allie Raffa – oe Biden's naming of Sen. Kamala Harris of California as his running mate is already paying off. The presumptive Democratic nominee and former vice president announced on Wednesday that his campaign's raised a staggering $26 million since Tuesday's running mate announcement. At a virtual grassroots fundraiser with Harris, Biden said that in the past 24 hours "we raised $26 million." And he noted that 150,000 of the donors were first time contributors to his presidential campaign. "It's really palpable, the excitement," Biden emphasized. The previous record for a single Biden fundraising event appears to be $11 million, which was the amount brought in by the former vice president when he teamed up with his one-time boss, former President Barack Obama, at a combined grassroots and top-dollar donor fundraiser in late June. Harris helped Biden bring in campaign cash even before she was picked as the Democratic Party's vice-presidential candidate. A fundraiser in early June headlined by the former vice president and the senator brought in nearly $4 million. President Trump’s re-election campaign said last week that it, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and its joint fundraising committees combined brought in an eye-popping $165 million in contributions in August. They also touted that they now have more than $300 million cash on hand as of the end of July.
“The congressional candidates who have embraced the baseless QAnon conspiracy theory” by CNN’s Veronica Stracqualursi – A Republican candidate who subscribes to the baseless QAnon conspiracy theory prevailed Tuesday night in a House primary runoff in Georgia. Marjorie Taylor Greene defeated fellow Republican John Cowan in the runoff for Georgia's 14th Congressional District, and her victory in the solidly Republican Georgia district means Greene is all but certain to find herself elected to Washington. What started three years ago as a conspiracy theory born on the internet's dark fringes has moved into the mainstream with candidates like Greene espousing and promoting QAnon theories and phrases as they seek political office on a major party ticket. QAnon's main theories claim that dozens of politicians and A-list celebrities work in tandem with governments around the globe to engage in child sex abuse. Followers also believe there is a "deep state" effort to thwart President Donald Trump. Another QAnon theory is that Trump will arrest all his wrongdoers like Hillary Clinton and send them to Guantanamo Bay. There is no evidence for these claims. It's unclear who was behind the posts, or if the ones that followed were posted by the same person -- but followers believe "Q" is knowledgeable because of his or her claim to security clearance within the US government. Besides Greene, a few other candidates on the November ballot have expressed support or sympathize with QAnon, without calling themselves an outright believer.
“U.S. Audit Watchdog Overhauls Inspection Plan to Assess Virus Impact” by WSJ’s Mark Maurer – The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board is extending its window for inspections to assess the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on audit quality. The accounting watchdog plans to review a sample of U.S. audits of public companies whose fiscal year ended June 30, in addition to a batch of businesses with March 31 year-ends, PCAOB board member Duane DesParte said this week. This year’s inspection window will cover five quarters instead of four, the PCAOB said. In addition to the year-end audits, inspectors will review some audits of quarterly financial statements. The watchdog expects its reviews to continue into the fall and to report on its findings in the first half of 2021, according to a spokeswoman. The PCAOB said the number of inspections would be comparable to prior years. The regulator usually conducts about 200 inspections of audit firms a year. 2020’s inspections will focus on how auditors are planning for and responding to Covid-19-related risks, PCAOB Chairman William Duhnke said. Those risks could evolve around judgments that auditors have to make, a process that might be complicated by limited access to financial information. Inspectors will review auditors’ workpapers and conduct inquiries to assess audit firms’ ability to ensure the quality of their work during the pandemic.
