With former Vice President Joe Biden (D) officially choosing Senator Kamala Harris (D) as his Vice Presidential pick, the announcement drew both criticism and praise from Democrats.
Biden made the announcement on Twitter, calling Harris “a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants.”
Although the pick has received some criticism from Democratic voters on social media, Florida’s top elected Democrat, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), released a statement in support of the Biden/Harris ticket.
In her statement, Fried commented that “Senator Kamala Harris is ambitious, smart, and someone every little girl and boy can look up to.” She added, “with her on the ticket our party, and our nation, is stronger.”
In turn, Fried believes that Harris “will help lead Democrats to a victory in Florida, help win back the White House, and will help restore America’s moral compass.”
In a message to supporters, Biden provided more insight into why he chose Senator Harris as his running mate, adding that "she's been one of the toughest and most effective Senators on two of the most important committees in the Senate - Intelligence and Judiciary."
Ultimately, the choice was made clear for him because of "her record of accomplishment - fighting tooth and nail for what's right."
