Senator Marco Rubio (R) is sounding pretty optimistic about President Donald Trump's re-election chances even as polls show that the president is significantly trailing vice president Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election cycle.
Rubio dismisses the early polls because he doesn't believe they reflect the head-to-head matchup between Trump and Biden, saying that early polling was just a "snapshot of a moment" and that Trump will prevail in the end when polls begin to solely reflect the presidential race.
“Polls are a snapshot of a moment," said Rubio "Right now, it is a very strange environment because of the pandemic, but eventually this race becomes a choice between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. And when it becomes a choice between two candidates, that’s where I think Donald Trump will win. It will be a close election, they always are, but I believe he will win and that includes Florida.”
According to the latest Real Clear Politics average of polls, Biden enjoys a 9-point lead over Trump in just about all of the public opinion polls. Polling this cycle is eerily reminiscent of the 2016 presidential election between Trump and Clinton, but at this juncture in that race, Clinton enjoyed an average 12 percentage point lead.
