Biden barely leads Trump in Florida, battleground states

Vice president Joe Biden has taken a little bit of a lead over President Donald Trump in the latest average of national public opinion polls, and in several of the battleground states like Florida and Michigan, but barely.

The average of all national polls have Biden besting Trump by 7.2 percentage points, and in Florida, the most recent CNBC/Change Research poll has Biden leading Trump by 3.0 percentage points, which is within the poll’s margin of error.

Democrats are celebrating the numbers, but this celebration could be too premature because, at this very same point in the 2016 presidential election against then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Trump was trailing by double digits to the former Secretary of State.

What’s worse Democrats is that the Quinnipiac poll conducted  on June 9-19, 2016 in Florida showed Clinton beating Trump by 8 points,

Because the case can be made that Clinton was a far more electable and gaffe-less candidate than Biden when she ran against Trump four years ago, Biden’s present virtual tie with Trump in the polls is a reason for Democrats to worry and Republicans to sleep a little easier, for now.

Here is a snapshot of all of the battleground states that Trump won in 2016. Several of these states were written off as solid Clinton gains due to double-digit poll results in the months leading up to the general election.

Look at how tight the race is. Biden should be doing better in these states.
