Waltz: China The Biggest Threat "America has ever faced.”

It has just been announced that Florida Rep. Michael Waltz (R) has been named to the House Republicans’ China Task Force, which is a committee of 15 Republican lawmakers that represents 14 committees of jurisdiction to coordinate policy on China and the threat it poses to the U.S.

In a statement, Rep. Waltz expressed that the “Coronavirus has been a wake-up call to America that the Chinese government is not our friend – in fact, it’s actually the most threatening adversary America has ever faced.”

The freshman congressman added that “in Congress, it’s important we craft policy to put America’s interests first and curb China’s growing power.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague the world, China has received heavy criticism over its spread of misinformation and its mishandling of the Coronavirus. In response, lawmakers have introduced numerous legislative efforts to hold China accountable.

Praising Rep. Waltz, House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy called the Florida Rep. “an excellent fit for this important task force,” noting that “though new to Congress, he has already spent over 20 years serving his country as an Army officer, including multiple combat tours overseas in the elite Green Berets.”

House Leader McCarthy concluded that “as a warrior and a policymaker, he understands that our present challenge goes well beyond defeating a single pandemic and that there is no substitute for victory.”

Saying that Waltz will “act as a ‘force multiplier’ for the task force and play a vital role in the success of its crucial mission,” Rep. McCarthy championed his inclusion in the committee.

The task force is expected to be used as a clearinghouse for ideas regarding the policy on China, which includes the Chinese Communist Party’s activity regarding its influence, supply chain dominance and infiltration, and intellectual property theft in relation to American universities.

When speaking of his goal for the task force, Rep. Waltz asserted that "China's Communist ideology is a threat to our American freedoms." As a result, "for the future of our national security and our way of life, we have to be smart and we must act now to protect them."
