Holness says DeSantis “accessible” and “responsive” during crisis

Since the COVID-19 virus began to spread throughout Florida in February, Democrats have been highly critical of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ overall response to the virus, but it appears that some of these very same Democrats are singing his praises during the crisis.

During his Miami-Dade and Broward County press conference in Doral on Thursday, Broward County Mayor Dale Holness told The Floridian his experience dealing with DeSantis and his administration was “very positive” and “supportive for the things” he and county officials have asked for.

“It’s been very positive,” said Mayor Holness “They’ve been accessible. They’ve been responsive. They’ve been supportive for the things we asked for, and as you can see today, this is what it brings.”

Holness added that he believes that regardless of political affiliation, those involved with making decisions at the state and local level in response to the pandemic, saying that everyone “understands clearly that we are all in this together.”

As early as April 1, Democrats began seizing the opportunity to criticize DeSantis for his “lack of urgency” and even went as far as to blame him for all of the COVID-19 cases and deaths to date.

 “His dangerous lack of urgency to issue a statewide stay-at-home order leaves him singularly responsible if more people get sick and die because he delayed or failed to act,” stated Rep. Debbie Wasserman.

 Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) placed the blame for 87 deaths and 6,955 cases of COVID-19 crisis on DeSantis’ shoulders.

“87 Floridians have died while we waited for this order,” tweeted Rep. Mucarsel-Powell.  “6,955 have tested positive for this deadly virus. This is far past due, and now we need to focus on cleaning up the damage this delay has caused. Stay home, stay safe.”

DeSantis has now ordered the re-opening of all 67 counties, with many of those counties moving closer to enter Phase 2 of the Reopen Florida effort.

DeSantis is expected to announce that gyms will be allowed to open over the next couple of weeks.
