Frankel accused of breaking House rules by Democratic Guido Weiss

Share

Florida Rep. Lois Frankel (D) is facing criticism from both Democrats and Republicans as she may face a tough reelection campaign this election cycle.

Guido Weiss, a Democrat vying to unseat Rep. Frankel in the primary election, is accusing the Florida lawmaker’s district office of breaking congressional rules.

In a statement, Weiss commented that “it is not only Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz that has a conflict of interest with his congressional district office that could break congressional rules.”

Shifting his sights on Rep. Frankel, Weiss argued that “in Palm Beach County, we are seeing a similar issue with Rep. Lois Frankel.” Explaining that “Congressional rules state that a district office lease should be ‘the result of a bona fide, arms-length, marketplace transaction,’” adding that “Rep. Frankel rents a district office connected to a once donor and powerful local developer.”

"Unfortunately, right here in Palm Beach County, we are seeing a similar issue with Rep. Lois Frankel. Congressional rules state that a district office lease should be 'the result of a bona fide, arms-length, marketplace transaction.' However, Rep. Frankel rents a district office connected to a once donor and powerful local developer.

Could this be why Rep. Frankel's district office is in an area of Boca Raton outside of the district that is hard to travel to using public transport, and likely in a more expensive area than an office space in our district like Boynton Beach or Lake Worth? The people of Palm Beach County deserve answers."- Guido Weiss

Weiss questioned if “Rep. Frankel’s district office is in an area of Boca Raton outside of the district that is hard to travel to using public transport, and likely in a more expensive area than office space in our district like Boynton Beach or Lake Worth?”

Frankel has also faced heavy scrutiny from Democrats that are leaving the party and voting Republican.

Siggy Flicker, an author, television personality and spokeswoman for JEXIT (Jewish people leaving the Democratic party) lives in Boca Raton and is a supporter of Laura Loomer (R), who is expected to easily win the Republican primary.

Flicker slammed Rep. Frankel, saying that “as a Jew who left the Democrat party, Lois Frankel is everything that’s wrong with Washington.” Flicker added that Frankel “having an office outside of her district is only one of many examples of her failed leadership and laziness as a member of Congress.”

Flicker also said that  “many members of JEXIT who live in her district often complain that she is never available to address their concerns about issues like anti-Semitism.” This is a concern because “they can never seem to get an appointment with her at her out of district office.”

Rep. Frankel has not responded to the criticism, but in looking at the legislative office's website, the district map shows her office to be several miles out of her congressional district. It's common practice for a member of Congress to rent office space that is somewhat close to the home address. According to the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser, only three residences exists that list a Lois Frankel as an owner. None of these addresses are remotely close to her Boca Raton Office.

Here is a video that Weiss shared showing exactly where Frankel's Boca Raton office was situated.
