Florida Democrats have released a statement regarding the April Jobs Report, citing the consequences of President Trump’s failed leadership as a determining factor of negatively affecting jobs in the sunshine state, causing historic unemployment.
In the findings provided by the U.S. Department of Labor, the unemployment rate nationwide is at 14.7%. It’s also reported that since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, Floridians filed more than one million unemployment claims.
In response to these findings, Florida Democrats are furious as Terrie Rizzo, the Florida Democratic Party Chair explained in a statement.
“Instead of preparing us for the pandemic,” Rizzo expressed, “Donald Trump ignored his own intelligence briefings, fell for China’s propaganda, and allowed COVID-19 to spread without widespread testing to track and contain the virus.” Rizzo added that “Trump wasted time containing the virus and now more than 33 million Americans have filed for unemployment.”
Furthermore, the Democratic Chair detailed that “this crisis has been especially devastating here in Florida, where hundreds of thousands of jobless Floridians haven’t been able to receive assistance because of a broken unemployment system.”
Rizzo concluded by saying that “Floridians are paying the price for Trump’s inaction and we simply cannot take another four years of his chaotic leadership.”
