Scott Slams Biden's Support of Communist Cuba

Share

Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) has faced heavy criticism as prominent Democrats have come forward with their support for his campaign while disregarding sexual assault claims from Tara Reade, who recently shared that “it’s politics and political agenda playing a role in objective reporting and asking the question.”

Now, as the former vice president sets his sights to enlist the support of the sunshine state for his quest to win the White House, Biden is being slammed by Florida lawmakers for admitting that he would return to Obama-era policies of engagement with Cuba should he be elected.

In a statement, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) expressed that “the Cuban people have suffered nearly six decades of atrocities, oppression and misery inflicted by the regime – and Joe Biden’s embrace of Obama’s appeasement policies toward the Castro dictatorship did nothing to help.”

The former Florida Governor added that “the violence, instability and chaos we see now in Latin America is directly tied to the oppressive Cuban Regime, which continues to prop up dangerous dictators throughout the region, including Maduro in Venezuela and Ortega in Nicaragua.”

Scott also highlighted “the story of Sirley Avila Leon, a Cuban woman who was attacked by Cuban security forces in 2015 – after Obama’s failed appeasement policies.”

As a result, “they cut. Off her hand and stuck her arm in mud to make sure it got infected” simply because “she complained that the regime was going to shut down a school in her neighborhood.”

Florida, which is home to many exiles from countries that have been overtaken by communist regimes, was heavily critical of the Obama administration, which led to the state voting for President Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

“Joe Biden is doubling down on his support for this ruthless dictatorship, reversing any progress toward freedom in Latin America,” noted Senator Scott.

However, Scott assured that “that’s not going to fly with the people of Florida and all those who have escaped this repressive regime.”

South Florida congressional Democrats are staunch anti-Communist Cuba advocates, so it will be interesting to see if they push back against Biden.
