While Florida’s congressional delegation is not in Washington, D.C. because of the Coronavirus pandemic, members of the delegation are still communicating with one another by way of social media and telephone.
During a tele-press conference with reporters about her efforts to help a South Florida family get back to the U.S. after being stranded in Peru as a result of the viral pandemic, Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) told reporters that she and her Democratic colleagues were in communication through video chat and would holding “weekly calls to speak on local issues.”
Rep. Mucarsel-Powell also added that the Democratic Caucus in the House had already started to hold conference calls with members to put together and finalize a fourth Coronavirus stimulus bill for President Trump to sign.
“ At a federal level, we already started having conferences calls with the Democratic caucus, we started on Monday because we are working on a fourth package,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “We don’t know when we are going to see the end of that curve. If people don’t follow very very strict guidelines, the virus is just going to continue to spread.”
Mucarsel-Powell also said that the COVID-19 virus break out was going to “overwhelm our healthcare workers and our healthcare system.”
She is right, as healthcare workers in the most affected areas like Washington, California and New York are reporting that they are running out of supplies, ventilators, and beds.
Mucarsel-Powell, who has been openly criticized Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over his management of the pandemic throughout the state, says she is focused on making sure that more payments from the federal government to Americans are made, all COVID-19 treatments are covered, and that small business get the “necessary funding” so that they can continue to operate.
As of 6:30 am on Friday, there is 9,600 confirmed case of Coronavirus with 163 deaths attributed to the disease. These numbers are expected to climb within the next couple of months.
