Football Legend Emmitt Smith Joins Ashley Moody in Anti-Price Gouging Campaign

Earlier this week, it was reported that Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s (R) office has been cracking down on price gouging leads that she’s received since opening Florida’s price gouging hotline.

Since opening, the office has received around 2,700 contacts, and the Attorney General is urging Floridians to continue notifying her of any other price gouging efforts going on in the state.

Joining Moody in encouraging Floridians to social distance and report any possible scams is Florida Football Legend Emmitt Smith who released a partnered video with Moody in support of the efforts.

In the video, Smith comments that “this invisible fight… is gonna take teamwork. It’s gonna take us to stay committed, stay focused and dedicated to the mission at hand. And that is to keep everyone safe.”

Attorney General Moody echoed in his remarks, adding that “it will take a statewide team if we are going to beat COVID-19.”

Noting that “we can’t leave anyone on the sidelines,” the Attorney General further explained that “Floridians should also report price gouging and COVID-19 related scams to” her office while also asserting that “everyone needs to join this effort,” which includes social distancing and listening to health experts.

So far, the Attorney General’s office has issued 3,800 referrals to various merchants about allegations of price gouging.

This has resulted in $158,000 in refunds.
