As the race for the Democratic nomination continues to be a two-way race regarding the future of the Democratic party, former Vice President Joe Biden (D) is picking up endorsements from the sunshine state.
Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) appeared on CNN this week to officially endorse the Vice President, making the case that the Democratic party will not be spearheaded by Democratic socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (I).
In her endorsement, the freshman Florida lawmaker praised the former Vice President, saying that he “will delvier on the priorities that South Florida cares deeply about.”
Citing his record on wanting stricter gun control, Rep. Mucarsel-Powell explained that her “father was killed by a criminal with a gun, and like so many others in my community who have experienced gun violence, this is deeply person to me.”
She added that “Hoe took on the NRA – twice – and won, leading the fight to pass the Brady background check bill” before concluding that “Joe Biden will deliver the results we need, not only on gun violence, but on health care, the environment and foreign policy, because that’s what he’s been doing his whole life.”
In response to the endorsement, the Trump campaign had some words for the Florida lawmaker.
Emma Vaughn, the spokesperson for Trump victory, commented that “Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s endorsement of Joe Biden for president equals a full-on embrace of an agenda that works against Florida families, hiking their taxes to extremes and crippling the economy one socialist policy at a time.”
In the 2016 election, President Trump carried the sunshine state, so all eyes will be on Florida as to whether or not it will remain red or shift blue in the upcoming 2020 election.
