One of Sen. Bernie Sanders' staunches 2020 presidential surrogates has decided to take to Twitter to flaunt the controversy surrounding her by boasting adjectives she has labeled herself with.
According to the tweet, Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has in the past stated anti-Israel, anti-Jewish remarks that have condemnation from both Republicans and Democrats, describes herself as a "Hijabi, Muslim, Black, Foreign, Refugee, Somali," and someone that "easily triggers conservatives, Right-wing bloggers, and anti-Muslim bigots, tin-foil conspiracy theorists, birthers, pay me a $ to bash Muslims fraudsters, pro-occupation groups and every single xenophobe since 2016."
It is not clear what 'triggered' Omar to tweet out this message, but in looking at her feed, nothing stands out being a reason for doing so. The freshman congresswoman was not responding to any particular tweet as she is known to do.
Earlier in the day, Omar did retweet support for Bernie Sanders's statement that he would not be attending the next AIPAC conference.
"The Israeli people have the right to live in peace and security. So do the Palestinian people. I remain concerned about the platform AIPAC provides for leaders who express bigotry and oppose basic Palestinian rights. For that reason I will not attend their conference."- Senator Bernie Sanders.
Omar has been under fire ever since taking office in 2018 for her controversial remarks against Israel and perceived bigoted remarks about Jewish people. House Democrats have pass anti-Semitism resolutions but failed to call her out directly for her behavior.
One Republican congressional candidate running against Rep. Ted Deutch, small business owner Jessi Melton, even went as far as to accuse Omar of "practicing jihad."
“Omar refuses to deny her allegiance to the advancement of Sharia law here and around the world, her role in jihad, and instead reacts with name-calling and aggression," said Melton
Just last month, Florida Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R) demanded that Omar apologize for saying that she PTSD from all the violence occurring in the Middle East.
Rep. Bilirakis told The Floridian that the freshman congresswoman needed to apologize to all veterans, who presumably currently live, or lived with PTSD.
“That’s terrible,” said Bilirakis “It’s extremely offensive to me, but actually to our heroes. She should apologize to our heroes.”
