Republican Senators are joining forces and requesting information on Pensacola Shooter’s A-2 Visa approval process.
Florida Senators Rick Scott (R) and Marco Rubio (R), members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, along with Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson (R), the chairman of the Committee, directed a letter to Chad Wolf, the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
The reason for the letter is because they want to better understand the process that Ahmed Mohammed al-Shamrani was allowed to receive a visa to participate in military training in December 2019.
In the letter, the lawmakers explain, “on December 6, 2019, Ahmed Mohammed al-Shamrani, a Saudi Arabian national here in the United States on an A-2 visa for military training, killed three people and injured eight at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.”
The shooting was described by Attorney General William Barr as “an act of terrorism” because “the shooter was motivated by jihadist ideology.”
The Senators added that “the Saudi government allegedly believes that al-Shamrani may have embraced a radical Islamist ideology as early as 2015, two years before he entered the United States.”
So, considering that “the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs is conducting oversight of the processes and procedures through which al-Shamrani received a visa to participate in military training here in the U.S.,” the lawmakers are asking for all “information and material” that they have to offer.
