Human Trafficking Efforts Take Center Stage

Share

Ahead of the Super Bowl this Sunday, which will be hosted in the sunshine state, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez (R) and Dr. Scott Rivkees, Florida’s Surgeon General, have released statements addressing ongoing human trafficking efforts.

Both Florida leaders commented on the important role that Florida’s Department of Health plays in identifying and assisting victims of human trafficking, which is made up of minors.

In a statement, Lieutenant Governor Nuñez commented that “come Sunday, South Florida will see an influx of visitors as a result of Super Bowl LIV.”

Moreover, “with such popular large-scale events, our communities are susceptible to the horrible scourge of human trafficking.” And, she noted that the “administration is fully committed to combating this pervasive evil by working with the Department of Health and private sector partnerships to train personnel on ways to identify and support potential victims.”

Dr. Rivkees echoed in Nuñez’s remarks, adding that “the Florida Department of Health plays a critical role in our state’s efforts to combat human trafficking.”

Therefore, “together with our state, local, federal, and private partners, the Department will strive to ensure that everyone traveling to this event has the resources and information they need to feel safe and lead the healthiest lives possible.”
