Since the news of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani’s death, the political world has been in turmoil. Some have apologized on behalf of the United States for Soleimani’s death, knowing that he was responsible for the death of numerous Americans. Others championed the move from the Trump administration, which included many Iranian citizens.
Now, one voice is weighing in on the issue, and the response might surprise many.
Professor Alan Dershowitz, a lawyer and author, commented this week on the killing of the Iranian General, saying on Twitter that “the targeted killing of Soleimani was a lawful, proportional preemptive military action against a combatant enemy who had killed and was planning to kill Americans.”
The liberal Harvard Professor also added that he explains the issue further in his book Preemption: A Knife that Cuts Both ways.
The response has shocked many, but lawmakers assert that it really shouldn’t shock anyone. The only ones being shocked, according to Republican figures like Nikki Haley, are those that are choosing to overlook the horrible things the General has been a part of.
Adding on the narrative, the former Governor of South Carolina joined Fox News in an interview this week, expressing that “the only ones mourning the loss of Soleimani are our Democrat leadership and Democrat Presidential candidates.”
Since the bombing, Democrats have blasted President Trump for not pursuing Congressional oversight, and the furor has only further ignited after Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) shared Dershowitz’s tweet.
In the upcoming presidential election, Dershowitz has endorsed Vice President Biden, noting that he’s a “strong supporter” and that he’s “liked him for a long time.”
