Federal Judge blocks Trump's use of military funds to pay for border wall

Share

Federal Judge David Briones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas has ruled in a lawsuit filed against the Trump administration’s initiative to use billions of military dollars to help pay for the border security wall along the U.S. southern border with Mexico.

Briones, who was appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton, stated that “After due consideration, the Court is of the opinion that a declaratory judgment and permanent injunction shall be granted in Plaintiffs’ favor.”

According to the Hill, “Briones’s ruling does not apply to other funds that have been designated for wall construction, including counter-drug and Treasury Forfeiture funds.”

As you can imagine, Democrats were elated to hear of the court’s decision to hand President Trump another immigration setback.

Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) tweeted that “the real winners” in the court’s decision were “military families, national security, and the rule of law.”

“The courts have ruled again Trump can't steal money that Congress appropriated for military needs, just to pay for a boondoggle border wall,” said Wasserman Schultz.

Earlier in the day, Democrats announced they would be filing two articles of impeachment against President Trump, but then turned around and gave him a major win by approving his USMCA trade deal that replaces NAFTA.
