Wasserman Schultz accuses Trump official of pushing "heinous white supremacy ideology"

For weeks, the buzz in the U.S. House of Representatives was about yesterday’s impeachment inquiry vote, so any other newsworthy legislative measures being address in the House took a nose bleed back seat.

On Wednesday, the day before the impeachment inquiry vote, the acting director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli was grilled Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) during a hearing of the House Oversight Committee.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz, who has been critical of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and has stated that he has given “new life to white supremacy,” accused Cuccinelli of pursuing a “heinous white supremacist ideology” by looking to prevent or deny legal immigrants from receiving public benefits.

"You have demonstrated that you will pursue this heinous white supremacist ideology at all costs, even if it means making critically ill children your collateral damage in the process," said Wasserman Schultz

The collateral damage the congresswoman speaks of points to a Trump administration measure that was supposed to go into effect on Oct 15, which would have limited a pathway to legal citizenship for those legal immigrants already enrolled or looking to use public funding programs.

Cuccinelli's day on the Hill, go worse, as Senate Republicans all-but threaten to block his nomination to head the Department of Homeland Security.

Why are Republican balking at supporting Cuccinelli?

The long-time Conservative ran the Senate Conservatives Fund that tried to oust many the moderate-Senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“If Ken was as liked by the White House as he thinks he is, he would’ve been nominated months ago," said a senior administration official. "The problem for Ken is that he is a nonstarter with Mitch McConnell and has a less than zero chance of being confirmed by the Senate.” (Politico)
