Is America Ready for the First Gay American President?

Share

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is gay and proud of it, but is mainstream America ready for the daily optics of him canoodling with his husband Chasten?

Maybe, maybe not.

The latest public opinion polls in Iowa and New Hampshire have Buttigieg up, but not by much over Joe Biden and the rest of the field of candidates.

There is no question that Buttigieg is very well-spoken and knowledgable on the issues, but many Americans, both Republican and Democrat, still take issue over him being married to a man.

Now, more and more Americans are evolving and accepting of Buttigieg’s lifestyle, but voting for a lifestyle to represents the entirety of the American people (that’s exactly what they will be doing) is a tough pill to swallow.

Florida State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith (D), who is a married gay man and has been supportive of Joe Biden in the past, is open to a Buttiegieg presidency.

Actually, Rep. Smith is all in for Buttigieg, as the Florida legislator tweeted his seal of approval for the mayor.

“No one ever really has perfect debate. That being said, Pete Buttigieg WON,” said Smith. “He’s surging in IA and NH. Attacks came predictably but were swatted down hard. Tonight was the night to breakaway. He did it.”

Buttigieg did hold his own during the debate, but so did Warren and Biden, so it remains to be seen how early state voters saw the debate.

Most Americans don’t really care about someone's sexuality, and it has been proven that gay Americans are no different than those rascally “Breeders” or straight Americans.

No one really cares about who is gay or not. “Don’t ask, Don’t Tell,” right?

Listen, if a gay couple wants to lose half of their money in a divorce like the rest of the straight population, have at it. No one should be told who to love, or which divorce attorney to hire.

It will be a historic event if Pete Buttigieg wins the Democratic presidential nomination and goes on to defeat President Donald Trump, but that is an extremely heavy list an unlikely considering that Buttigieg will have to explain his support for impeachment. The impeachment inquiry is not going well for Democrats.

Buttigieg sells the current Progressive or Socialist agenda better than most, but in the end, he will have to embrace his support for initiatives like Medicare for All
