Ilhan Omar accused of "practicing jihad" in America

Controversial Muslim-American Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) has received widespread and profound denunciation over her apparent anti-Israel position and the anti-Semitic rhetoric she has used to express her disdain for the strongest ally the U.S. has in the Middle East.

President Donald Trump, who called Rep. Omar an “America-hating Socialist,” along with numerous House Republicans, have been outspoken critics of the Minnesota congresswoman for making anti-Semitic tropes against Israel, are now joined by a Republican congressional candidate in Florida that accused Omar of “publicly practicing #Jihad.”

Jessi Melton, who is running for Congress against Rep. Ted Deutch (D) in Florida’s 22nd congressional district, responded to Omar’s “Housing is a human rights” tweet by tweeting that “housing” was “human need,” not a right.

Deutch has denounced anti-Semitism when Omar's first anti-Semitic remarks came to light but like the rest of the House Democrats, Deutch has yet to call out Omar for making those insensitive and offensive anti-Israel remarks.

Melton accused Omar of promoting “forced labor,” a measure she says is accepted in Sharia Law and followed up the first tweet with another tweet, this one laden with sarcasm as she called out Rep. Deutch for not denouncing Omar’s anti-Semitic tropes.

The Floridian reached out to Melton for comment via her website and received a written statement within the hour of our request being sent.

"Omar refuses to deny her allegiance to the advancement of Sharia law here and around the world, her role in jihad, and instead reacts with name-calling and aggression. I suggest you ask her yourself. Is she doing her duty to Allah by practicing jihad? See what she says. Ask me about my faith and I’ll sing like a canary. My faith is by choice, Omar’s is by force."

Before she can face off with Deutch in the November election, Melton needs to first win her Republican primary contest. There are currently five Republican candidates for congrees vying to take on Deutch in November.
