Calling Pelosi "dumb" is sexist, but calling Trump a "motherf*cker" isn't

The dictionary states that the term “sexism” means the “prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex,” but House Democrats seem to have their own definition for the word.

When Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) called Speaker Nancy Pelosi “dumb” and later doubled-down on the remark and defended his initial statement, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) took to Twitter to call Kennedy sexist form making the remark.

“Sexism exists in all areas of American society especially in politics & it’s not only insulting & primitive but also based on fear; fear that Women have the courage to stand up for what is right, to fight for justice, and truth and equality,” stated Mucarsel-Powell

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to impeach him," Kennedy said at Trump’s rally in Louisiana last week. "I don't mean any disrespect, but it must suck to be that dumb."

“Well, I didn't mean disrespect,” he said Friday on Fox News, “but I do think what I said was accurate.”

"Let me say it again: I think that what Speaker Pelosi is doing here is not only dumb, but it's dangerous," he said, referring to Pelosi’s House impeachment inquiry.

"It's a partisan impeachment, clearly," he continued. "All impeachments, I guess, are political, but this one's 100 percent political, and it's going to establish a new norm for America that I think is bad for us."

Mucarsel-Powell calling Kennedy sexist for calling Pelosi “dumb” doesn’t appear to be sexist on its face, nor does Speaker Pelosi’s recent statement where she called Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) an ‘idiot’ for making an “idiotic statement in the weeks and months leading up to her impeachment inquiry.

"It just seems like every time you turn around there's another thing, the president's saying wind power causes cancer. I associate myself with the remarks of Chairman Grassley, 'It's an idiotic statement.' So, let's rise to a level of presidential in all of this. Show us the Mueller Report. Show us the tax returns. We're not walking away just because you say no the first time around." –Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers like to grandstand and use divisive language like “sexism,” “racism” and “anti-American” to cast aspersions against the congressional counterparts.

Democratic Rep. Martha Fudge took to the House floor to read from a constituent that was laden with anti-Trump tropes and name-calling. The author of the letter called Trump and his supporters, and other words,  “dumb” and being racist.

Rep. Fudge support of the language used against the president could be perceived as sexist because the offensive language was directed at someone from the opposite sex, right?

And then there is Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D), who famously stated: “We’re going to impeach this motherfucker!”

Were these statements sexist towards President Trump and Sen. Grassley?

It depends on who you ask.
