Wasserman-Schultz presses her ammo-control Jaime's Law

Share

In a tweet earlier today, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL), declared her support for Jaime’s Law. The proposed legislation in Florida, by State Rep. Dan Daley, D-Coral Springs, and state Sen. Lauren Book, D-Plantation that would close the loophole when buying ammunition by requiring background checks.

Fred Guttenberg, a fierce advocate for gun control who lost his daughter Jaime in the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre that killed 17 people, says:

“Jaime’s Law will help save lives immediately”

Wasserman-Schultz, who is a U.S. Representative for the State’s 23rd District, introduced ammunition control legislation, on a federal level, back in March.  Her bill would require background checks when buying ammunition.  Congresswoman Wasserman-Schultz said this:

“requiring background checks on ammunition sales would save lives, and would close the loophole of individuals who are already prohibited from buying a firearm, to be able to purchase ammunition.”

Hopes for passing this bill in the gun-friendly state of Florida legislature are slim. Florida Senate President Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, said the Senate would consider restrictions including more rigorous background checks and making the Florida red-flag law more extensive in 2020.
