Nikki Fried's political balancing act continues in Florida

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) the highest-ranking Democrat in the state, whose face is plastered on every single gas pump across the state, continues her stellar political balancing act by keeping partisan views out of her office.

Fried won her office in 2018 by the narrowest of margins, eking out a victory over Republican State Rep. Matt Caldwell.

In looking at the AG Commissioner’s website, and reading the latest press release her communications department has put out, as well as her official Twitter account, Floridians would never know that Fried was a Democrat or a Republican.

But when you glance over at her personal Twitter account, a very partisan Fried is promoting a pro-Democratic Party and anti-Trump partisan agenda.

The balance is somewhat refreshing as many politicians with similar positions try to come off as being less partisan than what they are, but is Fried really keeping it all separate?

On her personal account, she doesn’t so much tweet about the office, rather she retweets posts from her official Twitter account.

Fried attended this past weekend’s Florida Democratic Party convention in Orlando, Florida and mucked it up with fellow Democrats, just as Republicans Governor Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and CFO Jimmy Patronis would do when they attend Republican Party events.

As we said, Fried’s personal Twitter handles is a partisan as you can get. From promoting Climate Change, bashing President Donald Trump on just about everything (but supports renegotiating NAFTA), promising unabated support for Teamsters in Tallahassee, to all-but blaming former Gov. Rick Scott for the rise in HIV cases across the state, Fried shows that she is a loyal Democrat to all her political party’s causes.

But while Fried wears her Democratic partisanship on her sleeve, the former lobbyist whose December birthday is just one day removed from mine has hit a home run when it comes to medicinal marijuana and the use of hemp. She ran and won on legalizing hemp and medicinal marijuana.

For the most part, Floridians back these alternatives to medicine, so if she keeps pushing pot, Floridians could look past the partisanship. Maybe.
