Mucarsel-Powell says President Trump poses threat to affordable healthcare

During the 2018 mid-term election cycle, Democrats won control of the U.S. House of Representatives by effectively setting a healthcare narrative that Republicans were not capable of countering.

Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) rode the Democrat wave into the House pushing healthcare, so is there any reason why she would not press healthcare for her 2020 reelection campaign?

Mucarsel-Powell has been holding healthcare roundtable town hall meeting throughout her congressional district, so the answer is “No.”

Her Twitter feed also shows a press to focus on healthcare and warns Americans that President Donald Trump wants to compromise their healthcare.

“If the President gets his way, it is every single American who would feel the consequences,” tweeted Mucarsel-Powell “Health care is a right, and I will not stop fighting until every Floridian can access affordable health care they need and deserve.”

Floridians do have access to healthcare, it's just not affordable. Any American can jump onto the Obamacare network and sign up for a plan. The problem is that most of the less expensive plans are ladened with crippling restrictions, and limited the amount of doctors patients can see. But the biggest problem is the astronomical out-of-pocket costs and annual deductibles saddled to these "low cost" healthcare plans.

The freshman congresswoman added that “If the President gets his way… limits on prescription drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries would disappear.”

Mucarsel-Powell supports the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, but recently and honestly pointed out the insurance premiums were "very high," and that she herself had to buy into the costly Obamacare.

“People can’t get appointments with their doctors, and when they do, their premiums are so high, their copayments are so high, their deductibles are so high, that they can’t afford it,” said Mucarsel-Powell “Many people just wait, and then it’s too late.”

Even though she did not say she supported the “Medicare for All” healthcare measure being pushed by her  Congressional Progressive Caucus,  Mucarsel-Powell did come out in support of “protecting the bare minimum” remaining of the ACA.

“We have to make major improvements to the ACA,” said Mucarsel-Powell “I as a congressperson have to purchase, I have to participate in the ACA, that is the insurance plan that I have. So, believe me, I know the premiums are very high and we need to fix some of those issues.” (The Floridian)

Mucarsel-Powell’s chief Republican opponent in the 2020 presidential election, Restauranteur Irina Vilarino, who does not support the Affordable Care Act, states on her campaign website that a collective solution to reduce healthcare insurance premiums, protect pre-existing conditions, and “costs of healthcare” must be found.
