Ilhan Omar tops $1 Million in 3rd quarter

This week Rep. Ilhan Omar's (D-Minn) campaign reported raising $1.1 million in the last three months for her 2020 re-election campaign.

With the average donation being $14.55, over 55,000 people have donated to the campaign this quarter, according to what her team says.  Omar has raised almost double from last quarter's $617,000 and the majority of her contributions were made online.  The campaign says 99.8% of donations made were under $200.

“For too long, Washington has catered to lobbyists and special interests, rather than the American people,”  -Rep.Ilhan Omar

It doesn't look like she's going to have tough competition for her re-election in 2020.  Omar's district in Minnesota is very Democratic and there has been no real primary challenger. Hillary Clinton won District 5 in Minnesota by more than half.

“Our movement is powered by small-dollar, grassroots donors. By putting people at the center of our democracy, we can get big money out of politics, and create the transformative change we need to tackle soaring healthcare costs, a warming planet, and build an economy that works for everyone.”

Although she may not need all of the $1.1M for her campaign in 2020, her funds can be transferred to other House Democrats and committees.
