Having been emboldened by the recently initiated impeachment inquiry, House Democrats continue to push their bold, unapologetic, and controversial legislative agenda in the U.S. House of Representatives that included taxpayer-funded abortions.
Rep. Alcee Hastings (D), who is battling pancreatic cancer, joined fellow Florida Democrats and the progressive “Squad” in the house calling for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment by supporting the Each Woman Act of 2019-2010.
Hastings proudly reiterated his support for the legislative measure that prohibits the use of federal tax dollars to be used to fund abortions on Twitter
“People denied abortion coverage are more likely to be people who are already systematically underserved by our health system, including women of color, young people, trans & non-binary people,” stated Hastings “Proud to support the #EACHWoman Act to lift bans on abortion coverage”
Because the Hyde Amendment, which is supported by the majority of Americans, significantly restricts the use of federal funds to be used by Medicaid patients for abortions, except in the cases where the life of the mother is at risk or in the cases of rape or incest, Democrats are pushing a race narrative.
Hastings joins fellow FloridaDemocrats Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Ted Deutch, Frederica Wilson, Kathy Castor, Lois Frankel, Donna Shalala, Al Lawson and the one-time “Pro-Life, Pro-Gun, and Pro-Family” Charlie Crist, in cosponsoring the bill.
With 168 total cosponsors, the bill could very well pass in the House, but will most likely fail in the Republican-led U.S. Senate.
