CNN is reporting that in 2017, the CIA extracted a spy from Russia that had access to Putin that was capable of taking pictures of documents on his desk
The U.S. allegedly pulled the “asset” because of fears that too much-classified information was being leaked would compromise his cover and overall safety.
Concerns of safety began during the Obama Administration, due to President Trump’s alleged and repeated “mishandling” of sensitive or top-secret information lead to the assets extraction was reported by the news outlet
The CIA and the White House came out against CNN, calling CNN reporting irresponsible, inaccurate, and could potentially put lives in danger.
Brittany Bramell, the CIA director of public affairs, sent a statement to CNN that read:
“CNN's narrative that the Central Intelligence Agency makes life-or-death decisions based on anything other than objective analysis and sound collection is simply false. Misguided speculation that the President's handling of our nation's most sensitive intelligence—which he has access to each and every day—drove an alleged exfiltration operation is inaccurate."
White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said "CNN's reporting is not only incorrect, it has the potential to put lives in danger."
CNN’s Jim Sciutto, it's Chief Security correspondent, reported the story.
