"Red Flag" gun violence law passes House Judiciary

Share

House Democrats are back in session and following through with their promise to push “gun violence” legislation the moment they returned from the August recess.

Florida Congressman Ted Deutch (D) said that he would return early to push his “high capacity magazine” ban bill through the House Judiciary Committee he sits on, and address other “gun violence” bills that have been proposed by his colleagues in the House.

The Judiciary Committee just passed a “Red Flag law” law that Rep. Deutch said would save lives because it would address individuals who suffer from mental illness and pose a threat to themselves and others.

“Red flag laws have already proven to save lives in states across the country,” said Deutch

Deutch mentioned that in Florida law enforcement has the authority to “detain people who are a danger to themselves and others” for a mental health evaluation but can’t take away those individuals' weapons without first passing an extreme risk protection order.

Deutch also acknowledged that it is “100 percent right” that criminals will always get their hands on guns, and these “Red Flag laws” will not prevent gun violence.

President Donald Trump supports these “Red Flag” laws and Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) has also introduced a similar bill in the U.S. Senate.
