After President Trump admitted to asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to probe vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter, it was the last straw for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D), who announced that she would start a formal impeachment inquiry into the president.
Liberal and moderate Democrats loyal to Pelosi, who has been kept their distance from “The Squad” and the Progressive wing of their party, are now supportive of impeaching Trump.
Reps. Charlie Crist (R), Al Lawson, Lois Frankel, Donna Shalala, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, have all come out in support of impeachment just as Pelosi made her official impeachment announcement.
Rep. Wasserman Schultz stated in an official legislative letter that because of the “new and mounting evidence that President Trump has obstructed justice” and “leveraged foreign aid to target political enemies,” she decided to call for the impeachment inquiry.
“New and mounting evidence indicates that President Trump has obstructed justice, leveraged foreign aid to target political enemies, illegally blocked a whistleblower from Congress, and invited external interference into our elections,” wrote Wasserman Schultz
Wasserman Schultz added that Trump’s “reckless and habitual disregard for our laws” left the U.S. Congress no other choice but to proceed with impeachment.
Each one, alone, constitutes grave abuse of power. Together, I fear that our Rule of Law and Constitution will not survive such open hostility from this or any future President.
President Trump shot back at House Democrats, calling the announcement a“Presidential harassment” and Pelosi’s call for an impeachment inquiry a “Witchhunt” the transcript of the call in question had not been released.
President Trump said that he received permission from Ukrainian president Zelensky to release the transcript of the call. Trump is expected to not only release the transcript of the call but will also release the Whistleblower complaint.
