Dania Beach, FL- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) helped launch the “Anglers for the Bahamas” with Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris, an initiative to support the storm-battered people of the northern Bahamas.
“Last Friday, I toured the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas by air and saw firsthand the devastation of the Abaco Islands and Marsh Harbor,” said Governor DeSantis. “This week I was proud to announce our state has teamed up with FPL to donate more than half a million bottles of water along with the $11 million in generous donations from Floridians and corporations. Today, I’m proud to be with Bass Pro as they launch recovery efforts and raise significant funds to assist the people of the Bahamas in their time of need.”
Other fishing-related businesses were on hand to announce their contribution to the cause. While most gave generous donations of $10,000-$500,000, others donated products their respective businesses produced. Tyson Foods, Divers Direct, Sunglass Hut, and other companies were there to help.
Bass Pro Shops donated $500,000 and gave another $500,000 worth of supplies.
