U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala (D) is not just signaling to, but telling the American voter that House Democrats will put bring up an assault weapons ban proposal by the end of 2019.
Shalala made the remark during a Gun Violence press conference with Moms Demand Action and Rep. Ted Deutch (D).
“Sometime before the end of this year, we will bring it up again,” said Shalala, who reminded those in attendance that she “was part of the team in 1994 that did the assault weapons ban.”
Shalala also said that several bills would be addressed in the House Judiciary Committee a week before Congress returns from the August recess.
One of those bills that Democrats will bring up will be Rep. Ted Deutch’s bill to ban high capacity gun magazines.
“We have just begun in the House of Representatives,” concluded Shalala
Deutch spoke moments after Shalala and confirmed that his committee would be convening to address his and others gun violence bills.
Deutch also told The Floridian that he was open to negotiating the background check bill the House passed earlier this year.
Florida state legislators Reps. Dan Daley (D) and Tina Polsky (D) were also in attendance and address the gun violence issue. Daley thinks that its "unconsciable" to him that Senators Marco Rubio (R) and Rick Scott (R) "are not doing enough to be heard in the senate."
