House Democrat wants to "prosecute" those "making fun" members of Congress

Florida Democratic Congresswoman Frederica Wilson is angry over hearing that Border Patrol agents were part of a Facebook group that mocked and belittled members of Congress, and has called for those a criminal remedy to address the issue.

Rep. Frederica Wilson’s remarks came off the heels of several statements made by members of congress who their arrival at a detention facility in El Paso, Texas, were they were allegedly disrespected and intimidated by border patrol agents.

Rep. Wilson, who this past Tuesday attended a press conference outside of the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children, believes that those agents, or anyone found to be “making fun” of herself and her fellow congressional members, should be “prosecuted.”

"Those people who are online making fun of members of Congress are a disgrace, and there is no need for anyone to think that is unacceptable,” Wilson said.

“We're gonna shut them down and work with whoever it is to shut them down, and they should be prosecuted,” she added. “You cannot intimidate members of Congress, frighten members of Congress. It is against the law, and it's a shame in this United States of America.”

According to a Fox News report, it’s alleged that “In addition to showing indifference toward the deaths of migrants, members made vulgar jokes about Ocasio-Cortez and other members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus ahead of their visit a Border Patrol facility in Texas on Monday.”

Rep. Wilson becomes the latest member of the Florida Democratic congressional delegation to attempt entry to the facility. Reps. Donna Shalala, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, have all made several attempts to enter the facility, but were denied access.

The three have called for the facility to be shut down.

Several of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates also tried to gain access to the facility after their debate performances in Miami last week.
