It appears that all the members of the U.S. House of Representatives “got the memo,” got a text message, and maybe even a “robocall” pressing them to vote in favor of the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act.
The House voted overwhelmingly (429-3) in favor of stopping harassing robocalls that Americans have grown accustomed to, especially during campaign season.
Ironically, many or most of these members have probably used annoying Robocalls to promote their respective congressional campaigns.
Listen, no one likes receiving these robocalls, especially when watching an episode of Game of Thrones, or when your 1-year-old is crying to the heavens for a bottle of formula, all while you’re trying to clean the kitchen.
High praise needs to go several Floridians, Reps. Ted Deutch (D), Darren Soto (D), Kathy Castor (D), Stephanie Murphy (D), Vern Buchanan (R), John Rutherford (R) and Charlie Crist (D), for cosponsoring the bill.
The bill extends the statute of limitations, giving the FCC and law enforcement more time (up to four years) to prosecute offenders, and would also slap a $10,000 penalty on those intentional violators.
