Congress joins in celebrating 4th of July

Share

Putting politics aside for about two minutes, members of Florida’s congressional delegation stepped away from the family BBQ grill to express the thoughts about the meaning of the 4th of July, and speak of American exceptionalism.

President Trump honored the military during his highly-anticipated Lincoln Memorial 4th of July event, where thousands of Americans showed up to see a military ‘shock and awe’ display of force.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) expressed that Americans should “strive” for a “more perfect union,” pressed Americans to “continue the fight.”

Rep. Brian Mast (R) all- but echoed what President Trump said about the military, saying that today was a day to “celebrate our freedom because of the brave patriots who wore the uniform with pride.”

Here are what other members of the delegation said:

“The story of America is not one of perfection but of perpetual progress. An ongoing revolution that began over 2 centuries ago & continues as each generation brings us closer to fulfilling the principles of our founding. Happy Birthday to the greatest nation on earth.”- Sen. Marco Rubio (R)

“Today, we remember the men & women who risked their lives for our independence. We must take every opportunity to thank them for their service, courage, and sacrifices not just today, but every day. From my family to yours, happy Independence Day! And God bless the USA.”- Sen. Rick Scott (R)

“What an honor celebrating our nation’s independence by spending July 4th with some of our troops who are far from home defending our freedom!  It was especially great meeting so many Floridians. Happy 4th, everyone!”- Rep. Ted Deutch (D)

“Today, we celebrate our country’s independence day and honor the brave men and women who fought and continue to fight so that we may live in peace, security, and freedom.”- Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R)
