Governor DeSantis Signs Patient Savings Act

Share

In Jacksonville, Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Patient Savings Act.

The legislation enables health insurers to offer incentives to Floridians who shop for higher quality, lower cost health care services.

The legislation also creates a framework for health insurers to voluntarily establish a shared savings incentive program for specific non-emergency healthcare services.

The program will not only encourage Floridians to compare pricing routine services, but it will also have the potential to provide savings to both patients and providers in the sunshine state.

Commenting on the legislation, Gov. DeSantis expressed that “in Florida, we are committed to finding innovative ways to keep healthcare costs low and provide Florida families with the tools they need to take control of their medical expenses.”

Furthermore, Gov. DeSantis praised “Representative Paul Renner and Senator Manny Diaz for their hard work this session to increase options for all Floridians to reduce their healthcare costs.”

He added that “with the signing of this legislation, we are empowering patients in Florida.”

Echoing in the Governor’s remarks, Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez detailed that “Florida has stepped up with the Patient Savings Act to give consumers more control over their healthcare and lower their costs.” She further noted that the legislation “will provide price transparency, efficiency in the healthcare marketplace and ensures Floridians will save money.”

At the beginning of spring’s legislative session, FL House Speaker Jose Oliva (R) asserted that healthcare reform would be a top priority for the Florida legislature, and Florida lawmakers have been diligently working to properly answer the concerns.

Both Senator Manny Diaz, Jr. (R) and Rep. Paul Renner (R) thanked the Governor for his continued support, but Renner added that “this new law allows Florida patients to reduce their healthcare costs when they select higher-value medical procedures. Those patients will receive tax-free savings that make healthcare more affordable.”

As well, Renner stated that the “Florida legislature will continue to work with Governor DeSantis to reduce healthcare costs and improve access for all Floridians, and this new law takes a big step toward that goal.”

At the signing, Governor DeSantis also informed that he is actively trying to increase drug pricing transparency in the sunshine state.
