Frankel, House Democrats Vote to Hold Barr and McGahn in Civil Contempt

Share

With the Mueller Report submitted and showing that the President would not be indicted and that the Trump campaign had not colluded with Russia to win the 2016 Presidential election, controversy only grew as calls were made to have Robert Mueller testify in front of a congressional committee.

In response, Mueller provided a statement confirming that indicting the President was not an option, and the rivalry between him and Attorney General Barr only grew.

Barr was slammed for not providing a memo that accurately described the Special Counsel’s findings, but Barr countered by informing that he had extended an invitation to Mueller to read the memo that was planned for release.

Mueller declined to read the memo, and tension was only growing.

Barr testified in front of a Congressional committee, but he backed out on day 2, and Democrats voiced their displeasure.

Now, the House has voted to hold Attorney General Barr and White House Counsel Don McGahn in civil contempt, and Florida rep. Lois Frankel (D) commented that this is only the beginning.

“At every turn, the Trump Adminsitration has stonewalled Congress from conducting meaningful oversight into the corruption and abuses uncovered in the Mueller Report,” she detailed.

Moreover, she expressed that “House Democrats voted to hold those obstructing the truth accountable. While they fight to hide the facts from the American people, we will conduct our Constitutional duty of oversight.”

In an interview with Fox News earlier this year, Donald Trump Jr. shot down Democrats that have been on the offense concerning the impeachment of President Trump by arguing that “the Democrats are not dealing in good faith… first, it was collusion. That failed miserably. Then, it was obstruction, and now the newest soundbite is that it was a cover up. Well, if there was none of the other things, what exactly are you covering up?”

In response to Frankel’s attack, Florida rep. Neal Dunn (R) issued a statement after the House voted on legislation expanding the powers of the House Judiciary Committee to prosecute both McGahn and Barr.

Commenting on the matter, Dunn expressed that the vote “is yet another political stunt by House Democrats to distract Americans from the pressing issues that are facing our nation.”

Furthermore, “instead of passing legislation and doing what they were elected to do, Democrats are wasting time and money on a never-ending witch-hunt,” emphasizing that “they are quite literally trying to prosecute Attorney General Barr for upholding the letter of the law.”

In addition, Dunn expressed his disappointment, adding that “it’s no wonder that many people across this country have lost faith in Congress – with communities recovering from natural disasters and a humanitarian crisis at our border, we are wasting time voting on expanding the prosecutorial power of leaders who only want to impeach our president.”

This, he explained is counterproductive, noting that “it’s time for the House to get back to work and stop with these meaningless votes.”
