The release of the Mueller report was controversial because it did not provide the information that many Democrats expected it would provide. There would be no further indictments, and the report expressed that there was no collusion between the Trump administration and Russia.
As Attorney General William Barr embarks on a two-day hearing where he will be testifying before Congress on his handling of the Mueller report, it was reported this week that Special counsel Robert Mueller had directed a letter to Barr explaining that Barr’s four-page memo highlighting the main conclusions of Mueller’s investigation “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the investigation that had been conducted.
However, Barr maintains that he provided Mueller with an opportunity to read the four-page memo before sending it to Congress, but that Mueller declined to read it.
At today’s hearing, Barr said that “that’s what we were trying to do: notify the people as to the bottom line conclusion. We were not trying to summarize the 410-page report. So, I offered Bob Mueller the opportunity to review that letter before it went out and he declined.”
After Mueller declined to read the memo, Barr notes that he received a letter from Mueller expressing concerns about the information Barr had provided in the memo.
Elaborating on the subject, Barr described that he asked Mueller “if he was suggesting that the March 24th letter was inaccurate, and he said no, but that the press reporting had been inaccurate. But he was very clear with me that he was not suggesting that we had misrepresented his report.”
As the controversy surrounding the Mueller report develops, the Barr hearing will be viewed by many seeing that it concerns the upcoming 2020 Presidential election.
Though many Democrats have asked to move on from the conclusions of the report, there are still those that have slammed Mueller as a result of it, asking that he should testify before Congress as well.
