With talk of a Space Force and conversation surrounding the potential of having the base land in the sunshine state, President Trump once again highlighted that exploring the stars is a priority for his administration.
Taking to twitter to make the announcement, President Trump informed that “under my administration, we are restoring NASA to greatness and we are going back to the moon, then Mars.”
President Trump added that “I am updating my budget to include an additional $1.6 billion so that we can return to Space in a BIG WAY!”
Earlier this year, Governor Ron DeSantis called for the Space Force’s headquarters to be stationed in the United States, and President Trump agreed.
In a statement, Gov. DeSantis expressed that Florida “remains the preferred launch site for sending humans and cargo into space.”
President Trump signed Space Policy Directive – 4, which establishes the framework for a sixth branch of the armed forces by developing a legislative proposal that would be considered by Congress.
The Space Force would be a part of the United States Air Force. In addition, should the sunshine state house the Space Force’s headquarters, then it would be the fourth military command station in Florida.
Florida rep. Tyler Sirois (R), who championed House Memorial 1281, the legislation that called for the creation of the Space Force, spoke to the members of the House Local, Federal, and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee, earlier this year. In his statement, he assured that “the United States and Florida are positioned as global leaders in commercial aerospace.”
Moreover, “with Florida’s spaceport infrastructure, deepwater seaports, and partnership with NASA, the 45thSpace Wing and other three combatant commands located in Florida, we are the best choice for the headquarters of U.S. Space Command.”
