Both Republicans and Democrats have shown their disappointment over President Trump’s announcement that he will be slapping Mexico with a 5% across the board tariff.
Trump plans to impose the tariff on June 10th if Mexico doesn’t do something about the illegal immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border, and hike it up to 10% by July, 15% by August, 20% by September, and level off at 25% by October.
While key Senate and House Republicans have stated that imposing a tariff on Mexico was a bad idea, Florida Rep. Ted Yoho (R) is standing by the president’s decision.
Yoho says the Mexico must answer for their “complicity in the crisis at the border,’ and hopes other members of congress do the same, adding that Democrats are to blame for the lack of progress in reforming the broken U.S. immigration policy.
“In Congress, we have worked on commonsense legislation that would reform our nation’s immigration laws to strengthen our border, enforce the rule of law, and provide a fair process for all who seek to enter the United States legally,” said Yoho” Unfortunately, the Democrats prefer to put party above country and play political games.”
