Rep. Crist Wants "Accountability" From Barr

Share

Florida rep. Charlie Crist (D) is continuing his criticism of Attorney General William Barr by sending a message called "Accountability" to his supporters, arguing that his “questioning of Attorney General William Barr sent the Trump administration into a bunker, as they attempt to hide the truth from the American people.”

The message includes a headline from the Tampa Bay Times, highlighting that “a pointed question at the right time" from the Florida rep. became "a breakthrough moment for frustrated Congressional Democrats."

The moment in question is in regard to rep. Crist asking Barr on April 9th why news outlets reported “that members of Mueller’s team were upset with Barr’s four-page summary of their investigation into Russian election influence and obstruction by President Trump?”

Deeming it an “innocent question,” it was later revealed that Mueller had sent Barr a letter on the 27th of March, commenting that he felt the attorney general had confused the public. However, Barr maintains that he in fact reached out to Mueller to give him the opportunity “to review that letter before it went out and he declined.”

Barr continued by saying that he had asked Mueller “if he was suggesting that the March 24th letter was inaccurate, and he said no, but that the press reporting had been inaccurate. But he was very clear with me that he was not suggesting that we had misrepresented his report.”

Crist asserts that “the American people deserve the truth, not lies and secrecy,” and that it’s a disservice to the American public for President Trump to take the attorney general’s “recommendation to assert executive privilege over Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation with such a wide brush stroke that they’re even attempting to hide notes from witnesses, along with any underlying evidence gathered.”

Attached to the email is a link encouraging people to sign a petition “to join Charlie and demand answers from the Trump administration, so we can hold them accountable for their actions.”
