DeSantis to Sign Book's Childlike sex Doll Bill

Share

The Florida House and Senate have passed a bill banning the sale and possession of childlike sex dolls, and the bill has been directed to Gov. DeSantis’ desk for him to sign.

Senate Bill 160, sponsored by Senator Lauren Book (D) gained bipartisan support since being introduced.

Speaking on why the bill is important, Book explained that the dolls “are anatomically correct, lifelike silicone dolls that are eerily similar to real human children made for the sole purpose of sexual gratification.”

Furthermore, Book expressed that “just as viewing child pornography lowers the inhibitions of child predators, so do these childlike sex dolls that have no place in the state of Florida.”

In addition, another sponsor, Rep. Mike Gottlieb (D) also weighed in on the bill’s effectiveness, saying that “recently realistic childlike sex dolls have been important into the United States as mannequins.

These dolls are considered by many to be fueling interest in child pornography as well as encouraging child predators.” Gottlieb also commented that “this legislation is an effort to stop the exploitation of children.”

The passing of Senate Bill 160 comes the same day that the Florida House also passed a “guardian” expansion bill that would allow teachers to be armed in schools should the school district approve.

While that bill did not gain bipartisan approval, seeing that a large majority of Democrats and teachers unions rallied against it, both bills are headed to Gov. DeSantis’ desk.

And, the Gov. is expected to sign them.

Senator Book organized a 42 hour walk in the Capitol rotunda last month to honor the 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse in the United States.

She first learned about the childlike sex dolls as an advocate of Lauren’s Kids, which she found. It’s her nonprofit foundation that fights to prevent child sexual abuse and to help survivors.
