Scott asks FBI for information on Russian interference in Florida

Share

Yesterday’s top news story was the release of the redacted Mueller report, which confirmed to legislators and the public alike that there was no collusion between the Trump administration and Russia.

However, information from the report indicated that there may have been Russian interference in Florida’s election systems.

In turn, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) has directed a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, asking FBI Director Christopher Wray to immediately provide any information to corroborate the claims made in the Mueller report about the Russian interference.

In the Mueller report, it’s stated that “the FBI believes that this operation enabled the GRU to gain access to the network of at least one Florida county government. The office did not independently verify that belief, and… did not undertake the investigative steps that would have been necessary to do so.”

In response to the claim, Senator Scott’s letter asks for the sunshine state county that was reportedly compromised.

Scott elaborates in the letter that “in August of 2018, when I was serving as Governor of Florida, my Administration reached out to the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to provide any information on Russian interference in our elections, and both agencies denied that Russia had successfully infiltrated Florida’s election.”

So, the claims made in the Mueller report have surprised the Senator along with Florida citizens.

To ensure that Florida has “free and fair elections with zero fraud,” Senator Scott explained in the letter that he “invested millions of dollars in cyber security, hired additional cyber security staff, and secured election security grants for all 67 counties.”

However, it seems that after strengthening and securing precautionary measures, a county was still tampered with.

Senator Scott asks for the FBI’s cooperation on this “very serious issue that needs… immediate attention,” and this is an issue that should provide new information within the next couple of days.
