FL court denies fmr. Broward Sheriff, upholds his suspension

Share

The Florida Supreme Court has ruled against embattled former Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, who was appealing his suspension by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The court’s decision all-but ends the longstanding drama that occurred when DeSantis suspended Israel over his office’s epic failure during the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas high school mass shooting that left 17 students and teachers dead.

“Today's @flcourts opinion leaves no doubt of my authority to suspend a government official for neglect of duty and incompetence. Scott Israel failed to protect the families and students of Broward County and I look forward to the @FLSenate resuming the process of formal removal,” tweeted DeSantis

The only chance or recourse that Israel has to regain his job as sheriff, is to run of re-election in 2020, and let the voters decide if they want him back or not.

And according to Israel, that is exactly what he intends to do, run for re-election next year.

DeSantis has replaced Israel with former Coral Springs Police Officer Greg Tony.
