House Progressives Omar and Ocasio-Cortez say Trump’s lying about Maduro

The New York Times has reported that they obtained a video contradicting reports that the Maduro regime in Venezuela set humanitarian aid trucks on fire.

Reporters and activists on the ground when the trucks burned blamed Maduro, but now the Times has video showing a protestor causing the fire when he through a Molotov cocktail at Venezuelan security forces.

U.S. officials have responded by saying that Maduro caused the overall problem on the ground, and that those trucks would not have burned if he would have allowed them enter the country to begin with.

Upon learning about the new video, controversial Progressive Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (pictured), who's first two months in office have been marred by accusation of anti-semitism, has come out blaming President Trump and Elliott Abrams, the special council for Venezuela, for the ills in Venezuela, saying that they continue to lie about what is really going on in that embattled country.

"Trump and Elliott Abrams cannot be trusted to tell the truth about what's happening in Venezuela. We must continue to question the narratives they provide and promote dialogue instead of intervention,” said Omar.

Two of her closest friends and supporters in House Democratic Caucus, Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (pictured), both came out in support of Omar’s statement on U.S. policy towards Venezuela.

Rep. Omar, a survivor of war, is one of the most effective voices right now at cutting through the authoritarian foreign policy tendencies of this administration. She nails it here. You can see why she gets targeted

Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez, and Omar, all recently penned a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo opposing the Trump Administrations recent moves of acknowledging Juan Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate president, imposing strict sanctions, and threatening military action if Maduro’s regime continued its human rights atrocities.

Here is an excerpt of the letter:

Dozens of other Latin American and European countries have also acknowledged Guiado and support the sanctions.

Both Omar and Ocasio-Cortez, who have not openly shown their support for Maduro, have expressed their displeasure and opposition to “U.S. interventionism in Venezuela” to stop the ongoing crimes and murders Maduro has been perpetrating.

“I am very concerned about U.S. interventionism in Venezuela and I oppose it,” said Ocasio-Cortez, adding,” “I am generally opposed to U.S. interventionism as a principle, but particularly under this administration and under his leadership I think it’s a profound mistake.”
