The House will be voting on the Democrat-sponsored For The People Act (H.R.1), a bill that is said to strengthen voter rights and federal ethics laws.
Democrats like Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL), who says she will vote in favor of the measure, is out touting the substance in the bill, a bill that would allow citizens to register to vote via the internet, and mandate the President and Vice President to furnish 10 years of tax returns.
Mucarsel-Powell recently asserted that the vote to “restore transparency and accountability to our government” will happen this week.
"The #ForThePeople bill includes my bill to prohibit voter roll purging through a tactic known as voter caging. Voter caging can prevent citizens from voting just because mail is undeliverable,” said Mucarsel-Powell, adding that the “dishonest practice is an attempt to suppress democracy."
But while the measure is expected to pass in the Democratically-controlled House of Representatives, it will probably not pass in the GOP-led senate.
Allowing individuals to register to vote online will probably one of the main non-starter reasons Republicans will most-likely not vote for the bill.
