FL Reps. Reintroduce Veterans Armed for Success Act

Share

Florida members of Congress are breathing new life into the Veterans Armed for Success Act.

The bipartisan effort, including Republican reps. Michael Waltz, Ted Yoho and John Rutherford joined by Democrat Al Lawson, reintroduced the Veterans Armed for Success Act today, which passed the House last year.

What the Act aims to do is create a grant matching program for organizations, including Operation New Uniform in Jacksonville, which provides job readiness for veterans and their spouses. In addition, eligible programs must display a commitment to ensuring our veterans have the skills they need to transition from warfighter to civilian.

Relating his time in service as providing the foundation for his support of the legislation, Waltz expressed that “as a combat veteran and Green Beret, I know how hard service men and women train and prepare for our jobs on the battlefield.” Waltz further added that “It is… essential for us to train and prepare for our transition into civilian life, but we often need resources and guidance to do so.” He detailed that “our country and our communities are better when our veterans find stable, meaningful employment to support themselves and their families.” Waltz then concluded by asserting that the legislation “will provide VA grants to local organizations supporting our heroes’ transitions.”

Lawson also weighed in on the necessity for the legislation, explaining that “when our servicemembers return home, it is critical for them to have access to resources that will make for an easier transition.” He described that the bill is beneficial because it “equips local organizations with the support they need to train our veterans from serving to a professional career.”

Congressman Yoho also informed that “the Veterans Armed for Success Act focuses on transitioning assistance for all veterans providing them with the training they need to be successful in the workforce.”
