Democrats push back on Trump's threat to abolish Obamacare

Share

President Obama’s legacy legislation, the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, could be on the verge of being completely scrapped by the Trump Administration.

Citing the ruling of a federal judge in Texas, who ruled the law as being unconstitutional, the Trump Administration filed a letter with the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans outlining why the controversial healthcare law should be completely abolished.

Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he will win this latest Obamacare battle, saying that “the Republican Party will be the party of great healthcare,” adding that pre-existing conditions would also be covered.

Republicans have tried 60 times to repeal and replace Obamacare, but have failed to do so. What’s worse, Republicans have not been able to offer a realistic and viable option to the law.

Democrats are up in arms, and are now pivoting from the Mueller report findings to defending the flawed healthcare law.

“This administration is going completely against the will of the people, going against the will of Congress, and trying to pull the rug out from under millions and millions of American families,” said Julian Castro, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate.

Castro’s presidential primary opponent, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke, also chimed on Trump’s plan to scrap Obamacare, pushing for” universal” and “guaranteed” healthcare for all.

"We will defend the ACA. We will protect the care of those whose lives depend on it. And we will get to universal, guaranteed, high-quality health care for every woman, every man, every child in this country."- Robert "Beto" O'Rourke

Senator Roy Blount (R-MO) has recently said that there hasn’t been any recent work done in the senate to address replacing Obamacare.
