Val Demings Tapped to Head Recruitment Efforts

This week, sophomore Congresswoman Val Demings was tapped to lead the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Recruitment Committee as the 2020 election fast approaches. With Democrats like Senator Elizabeth Warren already positioning themselves to take on President Donald Trump as he fights for reelection, Democrats are focusing on relating to constituents and fixing the issues that led to the 2016 Presidential election outcome.

The DCCC further explained that “in this role, they will work to make sure Democrats elevate the next generation of diverse leaders to expand our Democratic House majority.

Specifically, Demings will be recruiting potential candidates to run for seats that are currently held by Republicans.

After President Trump’s speech on Tuesday regarding the crisis at the border, Demings issued a statement saying that “while the government remains shut down and hundreds of thousands of American families worry about making ends meet without a paycheck, President Trump tonight offered nothing new, only more fear-mongering and the continuation of a self-inflicted crisis. The only crisis on the border is the one that President Trump has created by falsifying reports to instill fear, imprisoning children and separating families, and failing to hire enough officers to staff ports of entry.”

Demings is also on the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee, and she continued to criticize the president for the government shut down putting the lives of Americans at risk.

She explained, “ports of entry like our airports are the number one target for terrorists and drug traffickers… President Trump’s government shutdown will mean that the TSA officers who keep us safe won’t get paid. That’s unfair, unsafe, and short-sighted.”

President Donald Trump carried the sunshine state and its 29 electoral college points in the 2016 Presidential election. At the end of last year, Democrat leadership held a meeting to regroup and figure out how to work off of the results of the 2018 midterm elections, which didn't end the way they entirely planned it to.
