Green New Deal called national security threat

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, a stimulus idea aimed at fighting climate change and inequality, is being supported by progressives, but is being slammed as “irresponsible” and economy-killing by many Republicans, including Florida Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart.

Diaz-Balart tore into Ocasio-Cortez’s economic plan by saying that how it reads, the proposal is “about destroying the economy” and would “eliminate, in essence, all sources of energy.”

Whether its oil or national gas, any impartial person will tell you that it would be destructive to the United States…You can kiss manufacturing goodbye.”

“That is the dream come true for Iran, for Russia, for the enemies of the United States, “said Diaz-Balart.

When asked if Ocasio-Cortez’s New Green Deal could be an indirect national security threat to the U.S., Diaz-Balart stated, “absolutely, it would be the bailout of Russia and Iran. That (Green Deal) is not going to become law.”

“It’s going to destroy the economy, we’re going to lose millions of jobs, and the big winners, Iran and Russia, and others like that. It’s beyond irresponsible.”

Visibly shocked by Diaz-Balart’s comments, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez told HISPOLITICA that his opinion was “hilarious,” adding that there was “no greater threat to the United States than climate change, rising sea levels, these wildfires that are ravaging the west coast.”

“There is no greater danger to the American people, we just have had 3,000 Americans die in Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria and our lack of response and lack of preparedness for it,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

Climate change is one of the signature issues Democrats look to push through in the 116th Congress.
